Verey Books

Verey Books was the realisation of a boyhood dream of the owner Al Verey, positioned in the idyllic village of Pooley Bridge. Creating bespoke joinery throughout the main bookshop, the childrens room and the cafe was the key to making the best of the space. The palette reflects the lakeside location and was inspired by classic book covers. The childrens room was given it’s unique character through bespoke detailing such as hand screen printed illustrated panels and a hand woven willow tree under which Saturday Story Time has become a regular event. We developed a simple system of subject labelling, bespoke made in timber and screen printed for a hand crafted finish. We created a space for community engagement as well as destination retail with a modern take on the warm comforting feel of a village bookshop.

We are so pleased that we enlisted Judy’s help with our new shop. She thought of brilliant things that would never have crossed our minds! How she was able to see the final outcome of our shop from the initial wreckage that we presented her with I don’t know, but her detailed plans, all-seeing eye, relationships with suppliers and workers, and easy professionalism made her a delight to work with and we are thrilled with how our shop has turned out. We could not have done it without her.
